General FAQ'S
Kids can begin piano or keyboard lessons as early as age 5-6. We offer lessons for kids, teens, and adults.
Never. Many adults worry they’re “too old,” but adults are one of our largest student groups. You are never too old to start learning an instrument. At Rock U, you’ll find a welcoming, encouraging community of adult learners.
Yes—you’ll need a piano or a keyboard so you can practice at home.
If you don’t have one yet, we’re happy to offer recommendations on beginner keyboards, digital pianos, or acoustic pianos that fit your goals and budget.
For your trial lesson, we provide everything you need.
No. Lessons are billed month-to-month on a subscription basis.
We bill on the first of the month for the upcoming month, and you can cancel anytime.
Please note we do not offer refunds for lessons already billed, and we appreciate as much notice as possible when cancelling.
No problem! When you give us 24 hours notice we will issue you a make-up credit to use at a time that is convenient to you and your teacher. You can read our complete policies here: POLICIES
We believe performing is an important part of being a musician, but we also understand that not everyone wants to be on stage.
Students in private piano lessons do not participate in our seasonal band shows.
If you’re seeking performance opportunities we recommend you join one of our bands with your lesson.
No—anyone can take private keyboard lessons.
However, joining a band can be incredibly motivating and fun for pianists and keyboardists. Playing with other musicians teaches rhythm, listening skills, and gives students a real-world musical experience.
Most of our students learn through music they enjoy—rock, pop, movie themes, and more. Our teachers are skilled at adapting songs to each student’s level.
If you prefer a more structured approach, our instructors can teach classical method books or exam-based programs such as RCM, RSL, or Trinity. Your teacher will guide you on any books or sheet music you may need.
Check in at the front desk a few minutes before your lesson. Your teacher will meet you in the lobby at your scheduled time.
Your 30-minute trial includes:
- A conversation about your goals, experience, and musical interests
- A short keyboard warm-up or playing exercise to understand your level
- A mini-lesson so you can experience the teacher’s style
- Time to ask any questions
It’s relaxed, friendly, and designed to help you feel confident and excited to begin. After the lesson, your teacher will walk you to the front desk where we can answer any additional questions and help you register for lessons or bands.
