About Amy
Amy Rutherford is a dedicated and creative music educator and multi-instrumental powerhouse from Drummondville, Quebec. With a Bachelor’s Degree in Jazz and Pop Studies from Bishop’s University, Amy seamlessly blends formal training with decades of real-world, eclectic performance experience to bring every lesson with her students to life.

Since relocating to Calgary to pursue her music career, Amy has taken the stage all across Quebec and Alberta, including Festival des Traditions du Monde Sherbrooke, Esplanade Heritage Centre, and Calgary Bluesfest. These experiences have not only helped solidify her understanding of performing on different stages for different audiences but also informed her teaching with stage-tested insights, creative approaches, and a passion for performance that she brings to every student.

Specializing in voice, piano, and guitar, Amy is also proficient in drums, mandolin, ukulele, and bass. Her musical abilities and multi-instrumental expertise allow her to give students a completely holistic perspective on music – from melody and harmony to rhythm and performance – making her lessons as dynamic and versatile as her own unique musical journey.

Students who learn with Amy don’t just simply play notes; they explore, create, and grow into confident musicians who can truly express themselves across instruments and styles, bridging the gap between practice and true artistic performance.

WHAT OUR ROCK STARS SAY:

I would describe Rock U as a "must do" to anyone looking to either begin their musical journey or to improve their skills and confidence. Genre specific and limited band sizes ensures everyone spends meaningful time playing the kind of music they're interested in, and our instructor Tyler is unbelievable. He's incredibly talented, (he can sing and play everything), and his positive energy creates a great forum for making music and friends. I would best describe it as an opportunity to learn from a down to earth guy with world class talent. Get in before he gets too famous!!
My son has been attending Rock U Canada since last year and we couldn’t be happier with his progress. The instructors are knowledgable, patient, and very passionate about music, which creates a environment for students to learn and grow. My son looks forward to his lessons and band practices every week and has developed a newfound appreciation for music. Keep on rocking guys 🤘🤘🤘
A must do if you ever had aspirations of playing in a band. Beginner to expert there is a spot for you. Tons of fun and a great community vibe (and Canadian owned!!!). The place to live out your rock star dreams.
Andrew has been so positive and affirming throughout my experience. I really appreciate how he adapts the lessons to my interests.
My Granddaughter loves her ukulele lessons with Chris. Cant wait for lesson day.
