BASS LESSONS – FAQ

General FAQ'S

How old do you need to be to start bass?

Most kids can start bass around ages 8–9, depending on hand size and instrument fit. We offer lessons for kids, teens, and adults, and can help you choose the right bass size to get started comfortably.

Are bass lessons good for adults too?

Yes! Many of our adult students choose bass because it’s fun, expressive, and easier to pick up later in life. We offer adult-friendly lessons and adult bands.

Do I need any prior music experience?

No experience required! Our bass lessons welcome complete beginners as well as students who already play another instrument or have some musical background.

Do I need my own bass to begin?

It’s ideal to have your own bass so you can practice at home, but we’re happy to help you choose an affordable and reliable beginner instrument. We can also provide recommendations for amps and accessories.

What happens in a bass lesson?

Lessons are a mix of technique, rhythm training, learning songs, ear development, and playing along with tracks. You’ll build practical skills that let you play confidently with others.

How long does it take to see progress?

With consistent weekly lessons and a little practice at home, most students start playing real songs within the first few weeks. Bass is one of the most accessible instruments to start sounding good on quickly!

Can bass students join a band at Rock U?
