Frequently Asked Questions

General FAQ'S

What do lessons cost?
Pricing depends on the program you choose, but most of our students participate in weekly private lessons and a band program. When you reach out, we’ll walk you through current rates and help you choose the best option based on your goals, experience, and schedule.
When do bands run?
Rock Bands rehearse once per week, typically on weekday evenings or Saturdays.
  • Kids and teen bands are grouped by age and experience level.
  • Adult bands are grouped by musical genre (Metal, Top 40, Country, and more)
Do I need my own instrument?

You’ll need your own instrument for practicing at home, but you don’t need one to get started. We can help you decide what to buy or rent when you’re ready, and you’re welcome to try our gear during your free trial.

What if I’ve never played before?
No problem at all! Beginners are always welcome at Rock U Canada, both in lessons and in our bands. We start with the fundamentals, build confidence step-by-step, and get you playing real songs sooner than you might expect, all at a pace that works best for you.
How long will it take to play a song?
It depends. Many students can play a simple song in their very first week. Progress varies based on practice time, musical goals, and song complexity. Once your instructor gets to know you better, they’ll help set clear expectations and a path forward.
I already take lessons elsewhere. Can I still join a band?

Yes! If you’re currently studying with another teacher, you’re welcome to join a Rock U band while continuing those lessons. That said, we believe the combination of private lessons and band experience is the most effective way to grow. If you’re looking for a new teacher, we’d be happy to set up a trial with one of our instructors.

Can I switch instruments later?

Absolutely! Many students discover new interests along the way. We’ll help you transition smoothly so your musical progress continues to grow.

How many students are in a band?

Band sizes vary, but typically:

  • Kids bands: 6–8 students
  • Teen and adult bands: 8–10 students
What age groups do you teach?

We teach kids, teens, and adults. Our programs are tailored so every age group gets the right balance of instruction, challenge, and fun in our rock band programs and summer camps.

Do students perform live?
Yes! Performance is at the heart of what we do. Rock Band students perform 3–4 live shows per year at real venues. It’s one of the most exciting and memorable parts of the Rock U Canada experience.
How long is the free trial? What should I expect?
Your free trial is a 30-minute private lesson. During the session, your instructor will get to know you, talk through your goals, and guide you through a lesson. It’s the perfect way to experience Rock U Canada, try an instrument, and get all your questions answered.
