With over two decades of experience in the rock and metal scene, Jason Monk is a rock music instructor that Calgary students turn to for power-packed riffs, creative songwriting, and expert guidance in technique. A lifelong guitarist and songwriter, Jason brings his passion for heavy, powerful music to every lesson – helping his students to unlock their potential and channel their energy into confident, expressive playing.
When he’s not teaching or performing, Jason can be found in his home studio tweaking his latest work. Jason believes a great song should feel as good in your bones as it does in your ears, which means balancing raw emotion with technical precision.
Students who work with Jason often get a behind-the-scenes look at this process, learning not just how to play, but how to create, compose, and craft songs that reflect their own musical identity – bridging the gap between practice and real-world world industry insight.
At Rock U Canada, Jason helps students develop their skills through personalized instruction in:
Rock and metal, rhythm and lead, shredding, tone control, and riff-building.
Crafting powerful melodies, strong arrangements, and lyrics that resonate.
Introduction to home studio setups, recording techniques, and creative workflows.
Jason’s lessons are creative, supportive, and designed to help students push past their limits. He believes mistakes are stepping stones to mastery – and each one brings a player closer to finding their unique sound.
Jason isn’t just a teacher, he’s a mentor who understands the thrill of heavy riffs, the power of live performance, and the creativity of storytelling. His lessons go beyond drills and scales; they’re about connecting with music and building a skill set that fuels confidence, creativity, and performance.
